Volcano Bottle

$40.00

Hyotan (gourd)-shaped bottle with an eruting volcano modeled in relief on one side. The opposite side has calligraphic text, including the word “Satsuma” (on the right). The profile of the volcano looks like Sakurajima (桜島, “Cherry Blossom Island”), Japan’s most active volcano. However, it could possibly represent the volcanic island of Satsuma Iōjima (薩摩硫黄島), also located in Kagoshima Prefecture. We suspect this is a commercially-produced bottle for imo (sweet potato) shochu, a proud product of Kagoshima Prefecture. Comes with a handy matching cup! 7” tall by 4” wide.
