Tintype of two young people, probably sisters— or so one would assume, since they are dressed almost identically. Otherwise, however, they look nothing alike. One has soft, rounded features and a placid expression, as if she is just fine with her lot. The other has chiseled features, and glares intently at the camera from under strong brows, looking ready for a fight. It reminds us that people were always the same as they are today, which is to say, radically different, no matter how they were dressed. Loss to the emulsion and metal corrosion around the edges of the image.
