Very long (23”/57cm), narrow pestle, made of a fine-grained limestone with an almost wood-like texture. This kind of pestle was typically used for pounding grain in a deep mortar made from a hollowed-out log. Geometric patterns are carved on the upper end. Unknown provenance, possibly the Philippines. A stunning sculptural form.
