Natural sandstone grinding (or sharpening) stones such as this one were once ubiquitous in every village blacksmith shop. A wooden axle passed through the square hole, and was turned by a simple pedal-operated mechanism. Now, we can see in this substantial object what we will. Is it like an ancient Chinese bi disc, thorough which we can address the spirits? Or is it a giant a “hag stone,” through which we can observe the fae? You don’t really know, until you try. Stands unaided, but might roll away!
